Advertising Photography – Satisfying Client Specifications

Level: Beginners (with good knowledge of own camera & studio flash)
Location: St. Pölten UAS - A.3.04 Photo Studio (Building A)

In this workshop you will become acquainted with the process of creating and photographing advertising-campaigns for even bigger companies. The focus lies on the different challenges you have to face to satisfy your clients‘ wishes.

Content:

  • layout shootings (*)
  • stillife photography
  • people photography
  • working with models as a director (posing but not „posing“)
  • studio light
  • complex light situations on location
  • combining available light with additional studio flash
  • professional feedback on your work

(*) layout analysing, calculation, job sheets, timing, select the team, booking models, planing styling, planing hair/make-up, booking studio and/or locations, props, weather check (?)

Necessary equipment:

  • pencils and paper
  • DSLR or DSLM camera
  • lenses
  • if possible: macro lense
  • if possible: studio flash/battery powered flash
  • laptop including tetherprogram, tethercable if possible and usb -stick
  • don’t forget the chargers for everything

You should know your camera very well and be able to use it in manual mode. Basic knowledge of studio flash is required.

Arnd Oetting

is a German born, Vienna based photographer running his own studio for advertising photography since 1987. Campaigns for clients such as Austrian Airlines, BAWAG-Bank, Billa, Canon, Casinos Austria, Feh, Gösser, Hofer, McDonald’s, Media-Markt, NEOs, OMV, Post, Raiffeisen-Bank, SPÖ, Tahlia, Wiener Linien, WinWin, VISA…

Besides his job as a photographer he has been teaching professional photography since 1993 in different institutions, such as „University of Applied Arts Vienna“ or UAS St. Pölten since 2008. From time to time he publishes videos about photography on his YT-channel „Arnd Oettings wunderbare Welt der Fotografie“. Additionally he is the mastermind, composer and trumpetplayer of the band „Funkhouser“, a funkband with eleven musicians in Vienna.
